Think divine.

(This blog reads better with an English accent. Even if it’s just in your head.)
More holy than forgiving would be understanding. Actually being able to change one’s mind. Perhaps even prospective. Momentarily. To see from anointed point of view. However brief it may be.
We are raised to be one way or another. To see things this way or that. We make decisions based on what we are told is most Right. Most Truthful. We are led by others that have come before us. Who “know more.” We are guided to make the best decisions. From their perspective. From their reality.
As we grow up, we are a reflection of their Right and wrong. Their Truth and lies. We must then forge ahead to create our own. Our new perspectives. And realities are now a reflection of what we have learned from childhood from these outer influences (necessary as they are, one cannot develop themselves amidst a pack of wolves in the forest) and one’s perspective and reality changes because new thoughts and ideas present themselves. Then the newness is taken on. Reality and perspective change. Voila!
A new neuro pathway in the brain is created to accept this new thought or idea as Right and True. And the perspective of oneself is established, different as it were before. The reality surrounding then looks different.
Although it is with these outer influences that we develop, it is my firm belief that within each of us is a genetic make-up, a personality, a spirit, a soul. That establishes the self. The Being. It is only with the help of others (other people, other places, other things) that this self, being comes to fruition.
Why then do we find it so difficult to see from another’s point of view? To get their reality in which they are living? We pretend (in our own mind) that it is beyond our reasoning to “get it.” To comprehend their reasoning of Right and Truth.
Yet to deny them this is to deny their very self. To deny their Being. It is to say that what they think, do, say, believe, see is wrong.
To allow oneself momentarily, even, to consciously put oneself in the reality of another is that much more divine. Closer to divinity, nay much closer, than attempting to persuade another to match one’s Rights and Truth’s to yours. Impeding on who they are. Their self. Their Being.
To persuade another to think like me would be to say, “Here. As you think is wrong. Think like me and you will be right. Think like me and you will be closer to the heavens.” Blasphemy! Hypocrisy! How can one do this with a clean conscience? A clear soul?
It is small-minded to believe that one must think like oneself to be Right and True. How is it possible that an individual is the only one that is right, when their background, outer influences, world view, culture, etc. etc. all make up who they are? One a punitive universe to live (and love) in that would only see it my way!
I am thankful for the myriad of ideas that surround me, for the different realities and perspectives, for what I have not heard and have yet to understand. I am thankful for my brokenness. My willingness to hear you out (most of the time) even though you’re different than me. I cannot encourage you enough to try it. Just try it. Even if just once. To consciously sit back and hear what someone else is saying. Someone that thinks very differently from you. And listen. Soak up. Take in. And change your reality. Your perspective. To understand. Comprehend. And love. That is truly Devine. Divinity in its fullest.
