Itzel Perez Inquisitive Nerd.

There’s nothing better than listening in to those you love. My little sister, Itzel, has an amazing sense of humor, style, culture, and life. She knows more about Pop Culture, movies, music, improv, and backstage work than I’ll ever know. She came into my life in 2002 and she’s always been a light. She’s currently a Junior and extremely active in the theatre department at her high school. Itzel isn’t sure what she wants to do when she grows up (maybe an English teacher?), but she knows for sure she’ll stay glued in to the arts. I asked her to write a perfect little encouraging blog to get your weekend started right, and I believe she did just that!

My sister has asked me to write a guest blog for her. I’ve just finished making Green Hornet masks with my friend Nadia and am currently watching a cheesy Hallmark movie about some actor who falls in love with the mother of a not-so-blind six year old. I’ve been spending a lot of time on the computer lately. It feels like my life would be nothing without some sort of cyber connection to the world.
This brings me to a website I found the other day. The website had this written in huge letters: “It took 30,000 people 30 years to build the Great Pyramid. It took just 55 people 5 months to create the first modern democracy. It took two people a year to learn how to fly. YET, the best thing 223 million interconnected people with unlimited access to knowledge can come up with is LOLcats. WTF America? We could explore planets, create clean energy, solve world hunger, combat global warming, cure cancer, learn to time travel, do anything if we just put our minds to it.”
This is so true it’s not even funny. In fact, it completely rolled over funny and jumped to as serious as a heart attack. This is the future. It’s not pretty. I don’t know how many times I have heard a teacher tell me that they’re glad they’ll be dead by the time that my generation rules the world.
C’mon people! Get up and do something! Go help clean a road. Go make a sculpture that inspires other people to make something out of their lives. Get up off of your arses and help get people off of the streets! Learn something. Stop pretending to be cool and just let your inner inquisitive nerd show! Success is the best revenge.
